NewsRock stars immortalised in new ad campaignKurt Cobain, Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone and Sid Vicious have been immortalised in a new advertising campaign. The late rock stars all appear as angels wearing Dr. Martens boots in heaven for a Saatchi & Saatchi poster/print campaign. "We wanted to communicate that Dr Martens boots are 'made to last' and we discovered that these idolised musicians wore them," explains writer Andrew Petch. "Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatised the boots' durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic." The images have been cleared for use in the UK only, in an arrangement with Corbis, supplier of the original photographs, which have been enhanced by photographer Dimitri Daniloff and retoucher Christophe Huet, reports The Daily Swarm. Raveonettes preview new material in the US After debuting three new songs during their east coast trek back in March, The Raveonettes added a further four to their set for their west coast jaunt which has already taken in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Speaking to NME.com, frontman Sune Rose Wagner explained that the latest crop of material finds the band exploring some new territories. "There's one song called 'Aly Walk With Me' which is probably the most different thing we've done. It's got a really strong groove that's almost like a hip-hop beat which is something I've been wanting to do for a while. 'Black Satin' and 'Hallucinations' are pretty dark but they go through lots of peaks and troughs so they seem to be most popular with the crowd. My personal favourite is 'Lust' because it's simple and straightforward which is what I like." The singer also explained that their new, as yet untitled album will also mark a new direction for the band "It's a lot darker and a lot more personal. People often seem to think we're tongue in cheek with our lyrics but this one is more straightforward with themes that I think people will be able to relate to. There are 16 songs that I'm satisfied with but I would like to write a few more up-tempo ones after this tour before the final selection is made." The remaining tour dates are: Portland, OR Doug Fir Lounge, (June 4) Seattle, WA The Triple Door (5) Costa Mesa, CA The Detroit Bar (7) Los Angeles, CA Echo (8) San Diego, CA The Casbah (9) |
